VA Disability for Knee Conditions
Multiple ratings from one knee
Knees are rated under multiple diagnostic codes. DC 5260 (flexion limitation): 10% at 45°, 20% at 30°, 30% at 15°. DC 5261 (extension limitation): 10% at 10°, 20% at 15°, 30% at 20°. DC 5257 (instability): 10% slight, 20% moderate, 30% severe. DC 5258 (dislocated meniscus): 20% flat.
Key strategy: you CAN receive separate ratings for the SAME knee under different codes. A knee with limited flexion AND instability qualifies for two separate ratings — established precedent. Don't let a rater combine them.
Bilateral factor applies if both knees affected — adds 10% to combined value of both knee ratings.
