I built this because the existing tools are bad and the people who need them deserve better.
Every military benefits calculator site I've used exists to sell me something. Attorney referrals from Hill & Ponton. VA claims upsells from VetComm. Credit card affiliate links from Military Wallet and Veteran.com. The calculator is the bait. Your information is the product. Accuracy is an afterthought because the goal was never to help you calculate and was instead just to capture your contact info for a sales funnel.
This site is different. There are no hidden CTAs. No paywalls on basic math. No VSO upsells. No 'free consultation' forms. No affiliate links disguised as recommendations. Just accurate, well-sourced calculators that do exactly what they say they do.
About the Builder
I'm Travis, a Navy veteran who's been on both sides of these calculations.
After the Navy, I founded companies. I've led product teams at SimpliSafe↗, Capital One↗, and more, and I now serve as a Principal Product Manager at a global audio networking technology company. I also did my MBA at the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business↗.
But the reason this site exists is simpler than my resume. I've sat in TAP classrooms trying to decode ridiculous benefit tables printed on government PDFs. I've watched friends miscalculate their VA combined rating because the VA's own tools are confusing and the math is counterintuitive. I've personally helped many navigate separation pay calculations, GI Bill housing allowances, and the military-to-civilian pay shock that nobody really warns you about.
Every formula on this site is documented. Every data source is cited. Every calculation matches what DFAS↗, the VA↗, and the DoD↗ publish. If I got something wrong, I want to hear about it because accuracy is the entire point of this site.
Why No Affiliate Links?
Because the moment I add an affiliate link to a VA claims company, I have a financial incentive to steer you toward that company. That's exactly what every other site in this space does. I'd rather make less money from display ads and maintain your trust than make more money by becoming another lead-gen funnel dressed up as a calculator.
