VA Disability Pay Dates

VA disability compensation is paid on the 1st of each month for the previous month. If the 1st falls on a weekend or federal holiday, payment is issued on the last business day before the 1st.

Direct deposit typically hits bank accounts on the payment date. Paper checks may take 3–5 additional business days.

2026 payment schedule follows this pattern. January payment (for December benefits) arrives December 31, 2025. February payment arrives January 30, 2026, and so on.

First payment: after an initial award, the first payment (including any back pay) typically arrives within 15 business days of the decision. Back pay arrives as a separate lump sum, not as part of the regular monthly payment cycle.
